Fall Baseball Wrapup

The 2015 Emerson Lions wrapped up their fall season this past weekend with an 8-4 victory over a competitive alumni squad. Sunday’s tilt was the 10th and final game (six intrasquad, three vs. ENC, and one alumni game) of a very competitive and productive fall season. Senior Captain Julian Rifkind posted a 2-0 record with a 3.75 ERA this fall, setting the pace for an otherwise very young pitching staff. Sophomore returning starters Mitch Moormann (SS) and Conor Damiano (RF) led the way offensively, reaching base a combined 33 times while producing a combined 25 runs in the 10 game stretch.

During the one day of intercollegiate competition allowed under NCAA regulations, the Emerson Lions took on the Lions of Eastern Nazarene College in a triple header of six inning games. Game one went to ENC 6-3, and game two was a 2-2 tie, with Sophomore Cal Laird pitching all six innings, allowing just one earned run. Game three looked to be a blowout, as ENC jumped out to an 8-0 lead early. Emerson fought back to make it a one run game going into the last inning. After loading the bases with no outs, and despite the rowdy rooting of a well-hydrated alumni group, Emerson stranded the runners and lost the game 8-7.

The Lions accomplished a lot both on and off the field during the fall session, allowing eight new ball players to gel with the returning 12 members of the team: The team hosted four recruits from the high school class of 2015: Jacob Stuckelman, Ethan Young, Anthony Pugliese, and Max Wildstein, and the potential future Lions observed a Friday night practice and a Saturday intrasquad game. The team also took part in setup and cleanup efforts for the Honan Charitable 5k roadrace in Allston, MA. The guys have already begun their off-season conditioning programs, and they are gearing up for an exciting 2015 season.
